Hells Gate Panorama
This image is one of my of personal favourites and also one of my highest resolution photographs. This image was one that I had been planning for a long time and the weather was beautiful with the full moon rising during sunset. This location, is not far from mainland Tasmania, it is not even far frome Strahan however it was very difficult to get to (and back) in my tiny little aluminium tinny. I stayed for a few hours perched on a rocky outcrop and captured this image at sunset and one of the moon. The name of this body of water is Hells Gates (rightfully so) and the current was so strong. After I had taken my photos, I headed off in my little boat towards my car parked on the beach to the right of this island, but I was just being pushed back out to sea. If I had of gone left I would've had to deal with navigating rocks and breaking waves in the dark. Not ideal. I managed to get back by hugging the coast and taking dramatic zig zags to get through the current at full throttle. It really made me wonder about the skill sailors have to navigate areas like this is much bigger vessels. The Entrance Island lighthouse is at Hells Gate on the heads of the Macquarie Harbour, West Coast Tasmania.
